NOTICE REGARDING EXPORTING FUR (RAW/DRESSED) INTO MANITOBA

Raw:

Please be advised that no raw fur will be accepted at International Fur Dresser & Dyers Ltd. without the proper permits in place.

An Export Permit is required to accompany raw pelt, skins or hides.  If your jurisdiction does not issue an export permit for certain types of pelts skins or hides;

    • IFD will then apply for a Manitoba Import Permit based on the information required; your name, address, including phone and email, origin of fur, permit/licence type and number accompanied by a copy of the permit and or licence the pelt was harvested under (for individuals) or, where applicable your business number (registered business owners).
    • Once in place, the Manitoba Import Permit will be faxed or emailed to you and a copy of it must accompany your shipment of raw fur.

**Chronic Wasting Disease**

    • In Manitoba, The Wildlife Protection Regulation, found under The Wildlife Act sets out the following;

"It is illegal to bring into Manitoba a cervid that has been killed in another province or state without first removing the head, hide, hooves, mammary glands, internal organs, and spinal column, and leaving these parts in the place of origin. Antlers and connecting bone plate that has been detached from the remainder of the skull and has had all hide and other tissue removed, may be brought in, provided the bone plate and antler bases are treated with a solution of not less than two percent (2%) chlorine.
Raw capes and hides that have been detached from the animals and sealed in a waterproof container that ensures that no fluids, tissue or hair can escape may be brought in provided that they are delivered, within five (5) days of entry, to a taxidermist or a tanner for chemical processing into a tanned product."
These restrictions apply to all hunters, including First Nations people.

Dressed:

Please be advised that no dressed Polar Bear, Cougar, Pronghorn Antelope and Wood Bison (except wood bison kept in captivity and privately owned), nor rugged and or mounted goods will be accepted at International Fur Dresser & Dyers Ltd. without the proper permits in place.  In Manitoba, these articles require an import permit when coming into the province and an export permit when leaving the province - if your province does not issue a permit for these articles;

    • IFD will then apply for an Import Permit from the province of Manitoba based on the information required; origin of fur, permit/licence type and number accompanied by a copy of the permit and or licence the pelt was harvested under.
    • Once in place, the Manitoba Import Permit will be faxed or emailed to you and a copy of it must accompany your shipment of dressed/processed fur.

As per their directive, any items that arrive without the proper documentation will be surrendered to Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship and an investigation may ensue.
